Unfortunately we have boxed Fat Tony into a corner regarding his application for legal aid. I have no doubt that Mokbel has plenty of hidden funds to pay for the finest criminal defence team but explaining where it came from would be a whole new story.
Whether it be in property, shares or buried treasure, Police will obviously be in readiness to pounce. The problem with money laundering or hiding assets is that it is never accessible when you need it the most.
The other problem for Mokbel lies in the calibre of associates he has hidden his assets behind and I am guessing that there is still many out there. How does the saying go? No loyalty among thieves. By the time the fat boy can finally taste a quality short black again I am pretty confident the friends along with his assets will be nowhere to be found.
So yes it will be up to the taxpayers to pay for poor little fat Tony’s criminal defence. Such is life. But don’t despair fellow taxpayers, there will be more than enough of Mokbel’s confiscated funds and assets that find their way back into the government coffers to cover the Mokbel saga.
In the meantime rest assured that life for Tony now is in stark contrast to what the cocky little crim has been used to. In many ways doing time for criminals such as Mokbel, who have grown used to the good life and all its extra comforts, is a lot tougher than what people may think. And so it should be. What goes up must come down. The bigger the high, the bigger the comedown.
So I wonder if fat Tony has finally realised that crime doesn’t pay. Maybe this revelation will come to him whilst he is sipping on a slightly inferior short black in the comforts of his fully furnished six by six cell.
